Since 2012, the nonprofit DIY GIRLS has held tech workshops for 5th grade girls, largely from low-income area in Los Angeles. Girls design toys, program video games with Scratch — a free programming language from MIT — and even make wearable electronics.

Why do we fund ineffective programs, and ignore the cool ones?
